Jacqueline Fernandez was born in Manama and raised by a mixed-ethnic, multiracial family. Jacqueline's father Elroy Fernandez hails originally from Sri Lanka (Sinhalese - Catholic)and her mother Kim is Malaysian. She has two elder brothers and two younger brothers. In the wake of turmoil in Lanka, her parents moved to Bahrain during the 1980s. The scholarship she received allowed her to study at the University of Sydney in Sydney Australia, after completing her schooling in Bahrain. As a teenager she competed in badminton at the national championships, but she ended her career in the sport in order to be a fashion model. Padukone's mother tongue is Konkani. She is Mangalorean from her birthplace. Padukone, a village within the Kundapura Taluk located in Udupi in Karnataka State of India is where her ancestry is derived from. Prakash Padukone is her father and a former badminton star who has international acclaim. Her mother is an agent of travel.
